This program delivers essential translation principles while enhancing your ability to translate between English and one of ten available languages. You'll gain core understanding of translation theories and practical skills for working with English and your selected language: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, or Spanish.

The qualification serves as an initial pathway to professional accreditation, qualifying you to advance to either the Graduate Diploma in Translation Studies (requiring an additional semester) or the Master of Translation Studies (needing 2-3 more semesters).

Our instructors combine academic expertise with professional translation experience, bringing both theoretical knowledge and real-world insights to their teaching. Classes are kept small to ensure personalized guidance for every student's educational development.

Qualification Requirements

To be considered for admission to this course an applicant must have
ai a bachelors degree or an equivalent qualification as recognised by UWA and
ii the equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 65 per cent in the Level 3 units of a major
or
b a level and duration of education professional experience andor demonstrable life skills considered by UWA to be sufficient to permit satisfactory completion of the course
and
ci demonstrated native or nearnative proficiency in the chosen language specialisation or
ii for French Italian German and Spanish B2C1 levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages for Chinese a minimum of HSK 4 for Japanese Level N2N3 at the JLPT Japanese Language Proficiency Test for Indonesian Level 3 at the UKBI UjianKemahiran Bahasa Indonesia or Level 4 at the ISLPR International Second Language Proficiency Ratings and for Korean Level 4 at the TOPIK Test of Proficiency in Korean

Minimum overall score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0 must include Academic Reading and Writing modules
TOEFL - Internet-based Test iBT An overall score of 82 with a minimum score of 22 in the Writing section 18 in the Reading section 20 in the Speaking section and 20 in the Listening section for all courses.
TOEFL - Essay Rating Test of Written English TWE of 45 and either 230 Computer-based or 570 Paper-based score.
