A Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) involves independent research under supervision, evaluated exclusively through a thesis that may incorporate creative elements, with external assessment. The doctoral work must represent a significant and novel scholarly contribution, showcasing expertise in the chosen discipline while advancing knowledge in that field.

As the highest academic achievement, a PhD certifies the holder as an internationally recognized researcher. The program consists of an independent research project developed collaboratively between the student, advisor, department head, and the Graduate Research School Board. Candidates may pursue this degree within any academic department of the University.
