The Master of Strategic Communication (Extension) prepares graduates to meet industry needs for skilled communication experts capable of employing comprehensive communication strategies and techniques to solve complex challenges. Drawing on modern communication theory and practical industry knowledge, the program caters to professionals seeking to establish or advance careers focused on fostering meaningful stakeholder connections and enhancing organizational performance through strategic engagement.
This program equips students with practical expertise and competencies essential for the communication sector. It provides a foundation for learners aiming to utilize sophisticated knowledge and abilities in creating, executing, and assessing creative, integrated approaches to real-world communication problems. Throughout the program, students develop: (a) critical and innovative thinking skills (b) the ability to understand and adapt to varied environments, concerns, values, and viewpoints (c) proficiency in crafting and delivering strategic messages across diverse media channels (d) capacity to devise forward-thinking solutions for professional communication and engagement obstacles.
Program alumni qualify for positions including: account executive/senior account executive, brand manager, PR officer/manager, communication/media advisor, engagement coordinator, communication consultant, awareness manager, program communication manager, global manager, internal communications lead, marketing communications advisor, sustainability engagement specialist, governance manager, senior communications consultant, corporate communications expert, PR account director/senior director, chief client officer, media/communication director, corporate communications head, public affairs director, and senior change/communication leader.
Applicants must have completed a UTS recognised bachelor's degree, or an equivalent or higher qualification, or submitted other evidence of general and professional qualifications that demonstrates potential to pursue graduate studies.
For applicants with a bachelor's degree, the degree must be in field of education, management and commerce, society and culture (e.g. Bachelor of Arts), or creative arts.
For applicants with a master's, graduate diploma or graduate certificate qualification, the qualification can be in any field of study.
The English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications is: Academic IELTS: 6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.0; or TOEFL: paper based: 550-583 overall with TWE of 4.5, internet based: 79-93 overall with a writing score of 21; or AE5: Pass; or PTE: 58-64 with a writing score of 50; or C1A/C2P: 176-184 with a writing score of 169.
