The Bachelor of Design (Honours) is a specialized one-year program designed for students looking to enhance and broaden the knowledge gained during their undergraduate design education. Graduates acquire skills highly valued by creative industries, businesses, and society, including advanced expertise in their discipline that equips them for innovative and analytical work, as well as eligibility for postgraduate programs, scholarships, and recognition. They are also prized for their proficiency in design research, project coordination, communication, and design advocacy.
Throughout the academic year, Honours students take charge of a significant design project, working within their chosen studio—whether in fashion and textiles, product design, or visual communication (including photography). During this period, they refine their foundational design abilities, explore innovative methods, and cultivate a distinctive creative approach to carry forward into their professional journey.
Career prospects for Honours graduates in fields like product design, fashion & textile design, visual communication, creative industries, and social, service, or strategic design are growing worldwide. Today, professional designers are employed far beyond traditional creative sectors, applying design thinking and user experience principles to business and community initiatives. UTS Design Honours graduates stand out in both established and emerging fields, combining deep disciplinary knowledge with the versatility to contribute across diverse areas. They excel in independent work and collaborative environments, equipped with superior communication and advocacy skills that prepare them for roles as writers, researchers, editors, and critics.
