This academic program is designed for students pursuing careers as navigating (Deck) Officers and Captains in the maritime sector. It equips learners with essential knowledge and practical skills for safe vessel operation and management. The curriculum covers navigation techniques, ship handling, cargo and passenger operations, vessel administration, maritime law, and onboard safety protocols. The program combines classroom instruction with professional maritime courses and sea training, enabling graduates to earn either an Advanced Diploma or Bachelor's degree along with an AMSA-issued Certificate of Competency. The curriculum meets all educational standards set by the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW Convention, including its 2010 amendments.

This degree requires an IELTS (Academic) of 6.0, with no individual band less than 5.5, or a PTE Academic score of 50, with no score lower than 42 or equivalent.

The following course specific requirements must be met to be eligible to study this degree.
To be an eligible for an offer, you must have studies or experience equivalent to a satisfactory achievement in the following Tasmanian Senior Secondary subjects:
General Mathematics (MTG315115) or equivalent; and
Physical Sciences (PSC315109) or equivalent (equivalency includes CHM415115 Chemistry OR PHY415115 Physics)
