The Australian Maritime College's Bachelor of Applied Science (Nautical Science) program equips students with essential expertise to effectively command and navigate various merchant vessels. This comprehensive course combines academic study with practical sea training, enabling graduates to earn both a Bachelor's degree and an AMSA-issued Certificate of Competency.

The curriculum covers critical maritime subjects including navigation techniques, ship operations, cargo/passenger logistics, vessel administration, maritime law, and onboard safety protocols. Our program strictly adheres to the International STCW Convention's 2010 revised standards for seafarer education and certification.

Qualification Requirements

All international students will need to meet the minimum English Language Requirements, University General Entry Requirements and any course specific requirements such as pre-requisite subjects, if applicable. English Language Requirements This degree requires an IELTS (Academic) of 6.0, with no individual band less than 5.5, or a PTE Academic score of 50, with no score lower than 42 or equivalent. For students who do not meet the English Language Requirement through citizenship or prior studies in English in an approved country, evidence of an approved English language test completed within the last 2 years must be provided. General Entry Requirements Admission to undergraduate courses at the University of Tasmania requires the completion of qualifications equivalent to a 12th year of education in Australia. Course Specific Requirements The following course specific requirements must be met to be eligible to study this degree. To be an eligible for an offer, you must have studies or experience equivalent to a satisfactory achievement in the following Tasmanian Senior Secondary subjects: General Mathematics (MTG315115) or equivalent; and Physical Sciences (PSC315109) or equivalent (equivalency includes CHM415115 Chemistry OR PHY415115 Physics) TOEFL (iBT) - 72 (no skill below: Reading 10; Listening 9; Speaking 16; Writing 19)
