The Associate Degree in Arts is a two-year full-time program (or part-time equivalent) that enables students to analyze human culture and behavior through various lenses and historical contexts. This program encourages exploration of contemporary societal challenges while developing skills to contribute to human progress, creative expression, and innovation. The qualification offers multiple pathways: serving as the foundation for a Bachelor of Arts, allowing specialization in two BA majors, or facilitating interdisciplinary exploration across diverse fields. Students can customize their learning journey by selecting from more than twenty majors and minors available in the Bachelor of Arts, along with numerous elective options to broaden their expertise.
Sociology challenges conventional perspectives on reality, offering deeper insights into social dynamics. This major covers compelling topics such as globalization's impact on daily life, urban development in the modern era, the effects of social inequality on opportunities, and how gender, sexuality, and ethnicity shape identity. The curriculum begins with fundamental sociological concepts before progressing to advanced studies in social theory and research methodologies. In the final year, students apply their knowledge to address pressing contemporary social issues.
Admission to undergraduate courses at the University of Tasmania requires the completion of qualifications equivalent to a 12th year of education in Australia.
Most of our undergraduate programs have the following English language requirements.
IELTS (Academic) - 6.0 (no individual band less than 5.5)
TOEFL (iBT) 72 (no skill below: Reading 10; Listening 9; Speaking 16; Writing 19)
PTE Academic 50 with no score lower than 42
UTAS Access-English Level 6 - 60% (no individual score less than 55%)
Cambridge CAE (Certificate of Advanced English) - B Grade
Cambridge CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English) - C Grade
Cambridge BEC (Business English Certificate) Higher - C Grade
