The Associate Degree in Arts is a two-year full-time program (or part-time equivalent) that enables students to analyze human culture and behavior through diverse lenses and historical contexts. This program encourages exploration of contemporary societal challenges while developing skills to contribute to humanity's social and economic progress, as well as engaging with creative expression, performance, and innovation. The degree offers flexible pathways: it can serve as the foundation for a Bachelor of Arts, allow students to focus on two BA majors of interest, or facilitate interdisciplinary exploration across various fields. With access to more than twenty potential majors and minors from the Bachelor of Arts program, plus numerous elective choices, students can tailor their studies to expand their knowledge and develop versatile skills.
Psychology graduates enjoy diverse career prospects extending beyond traditional counseling roles. University of Tasmania psychology alumni have pursued careers in human resources, defense services, healthcare organizations, legal institutions, and various other sectors. Our research spans equally diverse areas - from studying Antarctic expedition teams to remote Australian communities; from investigating child language development to analyzing gaming's behavioral impacts. Collaborations include work with health departments and law enforcement, as well as individuals affected by brain injuries, addiction, or mental health conditions. UTAS psychology students gain practical experience applying their knowledge to tackle challenges facing regional, rural, and urban communities at local, national, and international scales.
Admission to undergraduate courses at the University of Tasmania requires the completion of qualifications equivalent to a 12th year of education in Australia.
Most of our undergraduate programs have the following English language requirements.
IELTS (Academic) - 6.0 (no individual band less than 5.5)
TOEFL (iBT) 72 (no skill below: Reading 10; Listening 9; Speaking 16; Writing 19)
PTE Academic 50 with no score lower than 42
UTAS Access-English Level 6 - 60% (no individual score less than 55%)
Cambridge CAE (Certificate of Advanced English) - B Grade
Cambridge CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English) - C Grade
Cambridge BEC (Business English Certificate) Higher - C Grade
