The Associate Degree in Arts is a two-year full-time program (or part-time equivalent) that enables students to analyze human culture and behavior through various lenses and historical contexts. This program encourages exploration of contemporary issues while developing skills to contribute to humanity's social and economic progress, as well as fostering creativity, performance, and innovation. This qualification offers multiple pathways: it can serve as the foundation for a Bachelor of Arts, allow students to focus on two BA majors of their choice, or provide the freedom to sample courses across different disciplines. With access to more than twenty potential majors and minors from the Bachelor of Arts program, plus numerous elective options, the Associate Degree in Arts empowers students to customize their educational journey by selecting subjects that broaden their knowledge and enhance diverse skill sets.
The Geography: Place, People and Environment specialization equips students with tools to tackle pressing global issues like climate change, sustainable development, economic disparities, resource conflicts, social and environmental justice, decolonization, and community welfare. Tasmania's distinctive setting provides unparalleled opportunities to engage directly with the island's rich cultural diversity, unique landscapes, and varied environments. Through practical, hands-on learning experiences, students acquire essential geographical methods for solving complex problems and developing location-specific solutions across different scales.
Admission to undergraduate courses at the University of Tasmania requires the completion of qualifications equivalent to a 12th year of education in Australia.
Most of our undergraduate programs have the following English language requirements.
IELTS (Academic) - 6.0 (no individual band less than 5.5)
TOEFL (iBT) 72 (no skill below: Reading 10; Listening 9; Speaking 16; Writing 19)
PTE Academic 50 with no score lower than 42
UTAS Access-English Level 6 - 60% (no individual score less than 55%)
Cambridge CAE (Certificate of Advanced English) - B Grade
Cambridge CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English) - C Grade
Cambridge BEC (Business English Certificate) Higher - C Grade
