The Associate Degree in Arts is a two-year full-time program (or part-time equivalent) that enables students to analyze human culture and behavior through various lenses and historical contexts. This program encourages exploration of contemporary issues while developing skills to contribute to societal and economic progress, as well as fostering creative expression and innovation. The degree offers flexibility - it can serve as the foundation for a Bachelor of Arts, allow students to focus on two BA majors, or provide opportunities to sample courses across multiple disciplines. Students can customize their learning experience by selecting from more than twenty potential majors and minors available in the Bachelor of Arts program, along with numerous elective options.
Participation in musical, visual, and performing arts has transformative potential, offering emotional enrichment, boosting self-esteem, and enhancing overall wellness. This major explores worldwide advancements in this growing interdisciplinary area, helping students comprehend the therapeutic and developmental benefits of artistic engagement. Learners will have chances to nurture their creative abilities while addressing modern health and wellness issues through artistic approaches. First-year studies cover basic neurological responses to artistic experiences, assessment of innovative arts-based wellness initiatives, and personal reflection on creative practice. Second-year coursework builds visual and digital skills for therapeutic applications while expanding techniques for emotional health promotion. The final year deepens understanding of arts-based interventions across diverse populations and age groups, examining the physiological impacts of artistic participation. Students will investigate specialized uses of arts for community and individual wellbeing, culminating in designing their own arts-based initiative for a specific demographic or need.
