The Associate Degree in Arts is a two-year full-time program (or part-time equivalent) that enables students to examine human culture and behavior through diverse lenses across different historical periods. This program encourages exploration of contemporary societal challenges while fostering skills to contribute to humanity's social and economic progress, as well as engagement with creative expression, performance, and innovation. The degree offers flexible pathways: it can serve as the foundation for a Bachelor of Arts, allow students to pursue two BA majors aligned with their interests, or facilitate interdisciplinary exploration across various fields. With access to more than twenty potential majors and minors from the Bachelor of Arts program, plus numerous elective choices, students can tailor their studies to broaden their expertise and develop versatile skills.
This distinctive program is acclaimed as Australasia's most innovative ancient languages course (with exceptional distance learning options). Beginner-level units start with Latin, catering to students without prior language experience. These foundational courses emphasize core grammatical concepts to enhance overall language comprehension, using carefully modified texts that provide immediate engagement with classical thought. Intermediate units further develop grammatical proficiency while progressively introducing authentic texts. Advanced students work directly with original ancient texts while undertaking accelerated Ancient Greek studies. The Ancient Languages Major complements Ancient Civilizations studies and intersects with various disciplines in Humanities, Social Sciences, and Legal Studies. Mastering Ancient Greek and Latin while exploring their rich literary traditions represents a profound intellectual journey, with the analytical and creative abilities gained through this training being highly valued by employers.
