Biomedical engineering professionals find employment across various sectors including academic institutions, industrial settings, healthcare facilities, research centers, educational organizations, and government regulatory bodies. These specialists frequently bridge the gap between engineering and medicine, serving in coordination or liaison roles. In industrial environments, they develop solutions requiring comprehensive knowledge of biological systems and technology. Government roles typically focus on product evaluation, safety assurance, and establishing device standards. Within healthcare institutions, biomedical engineers advise on medical equipment selection and usage while overseeing performance assessments and maintenance. In research settings, they manage laboratories and equipment, often leading or contributing to interdisciplinary research projects alongside medical professionals, physiologists, and nursing experts.
To be eligible for admission, an applicant is required to have:
an Australian Bachelor of Engineering degree with a 65 percent average, or equivalent qualification, in a related field of engineering to which the student is applying.
