The University of Sydney's School of Architecture, Design and Planning prioritizes research excellence. Our academic community brings together distinguished scholars and professionals, with numerous members holding prominent positions in their disciplines worldwide. The Master of Philosophy (Architecture, Design and Planning) program enables students to pursue specialized research across all academic domains within the School. Starting in 2021, research degree candidates must incorporate coursework into their studies. Participants can select from various specialized units (listed in Table R) designed for research students, offering training in analytical techniques, career development, and subject-specific knowledge. The program culminates in a thesis of 30,000 to 60,000 words for the Master of Philosophy degree.

Qualification Requirements
To be eligible for admission to the Master of Philosophy (Architecture, Design and Planning), you must have completed the equivalent of one of the following in a subject area related to your proposed research area: bachelor's degree with first class or second class honours or, master's degree These criteria constitute the minimum requirements for eligibility and do not guarantee admission. That remains at the discretion of the relevant supervisors and departments, and access to supervision remains highly competitive. The University must certify that there are sufficient supervisory and other resources and facilities available to enable your candidature to be completed successfully.
IELTS score: A minimum result of 7.0 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band
TOEFL - IBT score: A minimum result of 96 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing
Pearsons Test of English: A minimum result of 68 overall and a minimum result of 54 in each band
