The Master of Fine Arts research program enables you to advance your artistic practice through in-depth exploration within one or more specialized fields. Offered by Sydney College of the Arts (SCA), this degree focuses on guided independent study combining written analysis with studio-based investigation. You'll cultivate advanced skills, self-motivation and concentration by exploring your chosen research topic, while being inspired to create innovative and experimental work. Your dedicated research supervisor will offer tailored guidance to help shape your creative outcomes. This program empowers visual artists to expand their professional practice through rigorous academic and practical research across various artistic disciplines.
To be eligible for admission to the Master of Fine Arts, you must present a portfolio of work that demonstrates you have the level of art practice proficiency expected of an advanced research applicant.
In addition, you must have completed the equivalent of one of the following in visual arts or other subject area related to your proposed research area:
bachelor's degree with honours; or
bachelor's degree and graduate diploma; or
master's degree by coursework with an independent research component such as a thesis, dissertation or research project.
IELTS score: A minimum result of 6.5 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band
TOEFL - IBT score: A minimum result of 85 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing
Pearsons Test of English: A minimum result of 61 overall and a minimum result of 54 in each band
