The Sydney Conservatorium of Music prioritizes research excellence, fostering a dynamic and inclusive community of scholars and performers. The Doctor of Musical Arts program offers a research-focused doctoral degree in music performance, conducting, or composition, designed for accomplished musicians with academic aspirations. Ideal candidates will possess established research experience seeking to elevate their creative and scholarly work within the Conservatorium's world-class academic environment.
This program involves guided research culminating in a dual-component thesis:
(i) a public showcase of creative output (such as a recital, lecture-recital, recording, or composition portfolio); and
(ii) a written dissertation of 25,000–35,000 words. Both elements must demonstrate innovative contributions to the candidate's artistic discipline.
Structured coursework, typically completed in the initial year, supports research skill development.
