The science honours year is a prestigious additional undergraduate year you can pursue after completing your degree. This program offers a distinctive chance to develop your research skills while applying theoretical knowledge from your bachelor's studies. A mathematics honours qualification is valued both in academic circles and industry sectors that prize scientific reasoning. Deepen your expertise through a specialized Honours year in your chosen field, open to graduates of relevant disciplines. You can pursue honours across all scientific fields, crafting a research project with guidance from academic supervisors. Your research may span multiple scientific disciplines (such as mathematics and biology) and could require coursework in experimental methods or technical training for specialized equipment.

History and Philosophy of Science (HPS) examines science's fundamental nature, its historical evolution, and its prominent role in modern society. This dynamic field encourages critical thinking about scientific progress and its societal implications, situating science within historical and social frameworks while distinguishing it from other knowledge systems.

An HPS honours year opens diverse career opportunities in science policy, education, journalism, and writing, while providing strong foundations for academic pursuits. In this program, you'll collaborate closely with faculty advisors in a vibrant department, completing both a significant research project and coursework. You'll develop skills in research design and execution, culminating in a 15,000-word thesis. Typical research themes include medicine and society, early modern science, or bioethics. The HPS honours program requires completing 24 credit points each of project work and coursework.
