In our current era of growing Asian influence, comprehending this dynamic region has become essential. The Asian Studies major provides foundational knowledge about the area's rich cultural heritage alongside contemporary societal developments. You'll examine key themes including migration patterns, dominant religious philosophies (such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, and Islam), historical global interactions (including colonial experiences), modern political transformations (covering nationalism, democratic movements, and authoritarian regimes), and influential popular culture phenomena. The curriculum focuses particularly on China, Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia, and South Asia, incorporating the latest academic research. While language courses don't count toward the major, students are highly encouraged to complement their Asian Studies with relevant language instruction.
