The Bachelor of International and Global Studies (Honours) is a rigorous one-year program focused on advanced research. Participants attend specialized seminars and develop an extensive thesis on a chosen topic under the guidance of an expert supervisor. While standard degrees offer broad exploration with focused majors, the honours year allows deep engagement with a major subject through original research. This year serves as both a foundation for postgraduate work and a crowning achievement of undergraduate studies. For many, honours represents the pinnacle of their academic journey, expanding intellectual horizons while refining research, analytical, and communication skills essential for completing significant projects. Others use it as a springboard toward careers in academic research.
The Arabic Language and Cultures honours program includes two semester-long seminars and an 18,000-20,000 word thesis exploring a student's chosen focus area. Though seminars are conducted in English, they incorporate personalized advanced language instruction. While the thesis is written in English, students must incorporate Arabic primary sources. Some projects may include fieldwork opportunities, significantly enriching the honours experience.
