The Bachelor of Arts honours program serves as both a bridge to postgraduate studies and the crowning achievement of undergraduate education. This intensive year can mark the pinnacle of your academic journey, expanding your intellectual horizons while refining research capabilities, analytical thinking, and communication skills. It equips you with the personal and professional competencies required to successfully complete a substantial research endeavor. Ideal for students with a single major, honours also lays the foundation for academic careers or professional research roles. The program combines seminar participation with an independent research project, guided by a faculty expert in your chosen field.
For those contemplating Latin honours, early consultation about available options and necessary skills is highly recommended. Admission typically requires a 70% average in Latin major studies and completion of a second major, though the Honours Coordinator can discuss alternative qualifications.
This additional year of Latin study enables specialization in specific areas and the creation of significant scholarly work. The honours program can either conclude your Latin education or serve as a springboard to advanced research through our postgraduate offerings. The curriculum includes two seminar units – Research Skills in Latin Poetry and Research Skills in Latin Prose Literature – alongside an 18,000-20,000 word thesis.
