Study culturally significant works by legendary ancient Roman authors. Latin serves as the foundation for approximately 50 modern languages and has significantly influenced many others, including English. For nearly two millennia, it was the dominant language of European scholarship across literature, history, science, medicine, diplomacy, and law. The Latin major provides essential intellectual tools for understanding both past and present. This program develops advanced skills in reading and analyzing Latin texts. You'll examine influential works from pivotal periods, gaining insight into their themes, concerns, and cultural importance. Through progressive coursework, you'll master Latin grammar and syntax, starting at beginner or intermediate levels based on prior experience.
