The fourth-year honors program in Arabic Language and Cultures includes two seminar courses (one per semester) along with an 18,000 to 20,000-word thesis focused on a topic of the student's choosing.
While seminars are conducted in English, they also offer personalized advanced language instruction. The honors thesis is written in English but must incorporate primary sources in Arabic. Some projects may include fieldwork, significantly enriching the honors experience.
Pursuing honors can serve as a foundation for academic or professional research careers. The program combines seminar coursework with independent research, guided by a faculty expert in the student's chosen field.

Qualification Requirements
To qualify for admission to honours students need to have completed a major in the intended subject area with an average of 70% or above. Some departments and programs have additional criteria, including advanced senior units of study designed to prepare students for the challenges of fourth year study.
