Today's standard Hebrew, known as Modern Hebrew, is spoken by around nine million people worldwide. The Modern Hebrew major provides a comprehensive language education focusing on five essential competencies: listening comprehension, verbal communication, reading comprehension, written expression, and cultural understanding. As you progress through the program, you'll enhance your abilities in these linguistic and cultural areas.
While the curriculum emphasizes contemporary conversational Hebrew, you'll also explore diverse spoken and written forms, from news media to literary works including poetry. Graduates of the program achieve fluency across multiple contexts while developing analytical skills to examine Modern Hebrew's linguistic characteristics, along with its associated literature and cultural traditions.
The program accommodates students at various proficiency levels through different entry points. After taking a placement assessment, you'll be enrolled in the most appropriate course level, ensuring a structured and effective learning journey.
Thanks to the strong alignment between this program and the offerings at Hebrew University's Rothberg International School in Jerusalem, students have the unique chance to complete portions of their studies at this prestigious Israeli institution.
