Modern Hebrew serves as today's standard version of the language, with around nine million speakers worldwide. The Modern Hebrew major provides a comprehensive language education program focusing on five essential competencies: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and cultural understanding. As you progress through the major, you'll enhance your abilities in these linguistic and cultural areas.

While daily conversation forms the core of what you'll learn, the program also exposes you to diverse spoken and written formats—from news media to literary works including prose and poetry. Upon completing the major, you'll achieve fluency in Modern Hebrew across multiple contexts while developing skills to examine its linguistic characteristics, along with related cultural and literary aspects.
