China stands among the world's most influential civilizations, alongside European and Middle Eastern cultures. The Chinese Studies program equips you with comprehensive knowledge of Chinese society and culture, essential language skills for navigating Chinese-speaking environments, foundational capabilities for China-focused careers, and research proficiency in Chinese studies.

Our modern Chinese language program accommodates diverse proficiency levels, from absolute beginners to students familiar with standard and regional Chinese dialects. It emphasizes building practical communication skills at introductory and intermediate levels, including professional Chinese. Advanced coursework develops research and academic writing abilities in Chinese, while classical Chinese instruction combines with exploration of pre-modern literature and philosophy.

All students, regardless of prior language experience, can access our full curriculum, including exchange opportunities and intensive summer programs at Peking University.

Whether starting from scratch or possessing existing language skills, you can pursue Chinese Studies through to honors or postgraduate levels. Graduates find career paths in international affairs, global business, media, tourism, non-governmental organizations, academic research, and China-related education sectors.
