This five-year program delivers an extensive and adaptable combined degree that certifies you as an accredited social worker while enabling you to broaden your expertise with complementary majors and minors alongside the Bachelor of Social Work. While requiring a major or minor in Sociology or a minor in Social Policy, the program offers additional options in diverse fields like diversity studies, gender studies, Indigenous studies, or philosophy. The curriculum integrates social sciences, social policy, and social work theory with a focus on Australian and international welfare systems. During the final two years, students complete a professional social work component, featuring two supervised fieldwork placements in various settings. The program builds field education competencies progressively, cultivating values, skills, and knowledge to meet the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) Practice Standards.
Chinese civilization stands among the world's most influential, comparable to European and Middle Eastern traditions. The Chinese Studies major equips students with comprehensive knowledge of Chinese society and culture, fundamental language proficiency for engaging with Chinese-speaking communities, professional capabilities for China-related careers, and research skills in Chinese studies. The language program accommodates all levels, from beginners to those familiar with standard and regional Chinese dialects, emphasizing practical communication skills at introductory and intermediate levels, including business Chinese. Advanced coursework develops research and academic writing abilities in Chinese, while classical Chinese studies explore pre-modern literature and philosophy. All students, regardless of prior language experience, can access the full curriculum, including exchange opportunities and intensive summer programs at Peking University. Whether starting from scratch or possessing existing language skills, students can pursue Chinese Studies through to honors or postgraduate levels, preparing for careers in international relations, global corporations, media, tourism, NGOs, academia, or China-focused education.
