This five-year program provides an extensive and adaptable combined degree that certifies you as an accredited social worker while enabling you to broaden your expertise with complementary majors and minors alongside the Bachelor of Social Work. Although the combined degree mandates a major or minor in Sociology, or a minor in Social Policy, you can select additional majors or minors in diverse fields like diversity studies, gender studies, Indigenous studies, or philosophy. The curriculum integrates social sciences, social policy, and social work theory and practice, with a strong focus on Australian and international social welfare studies. During the final two years, all students complete the professional social work component, which includes two supervised fieldwork placements in various settings under expert practitioners. The program establishes field education learning goals and cultivates values, skills, and knowledge, progressing students from beginners to practitioners who meet the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) Practice Standards.
The Ancient History major immerses you in the civilizations of ancient Greece and Rome, exploring their myths, artifacts, inscriptions, literature, and historical records as primary sources. Examine the ideologies, governance, and cultures of the Classical world through topics like political systems, religion, law, mythology, slavery, migration, science, and late antiquity. Engage with translated works of ancient epic, drama, and poetry, analyzing their social and historical contexts while appreciating their influence on later eras, including contemporary media. You'll explore critical questions about leadership, democracy, human rights, religion, and the role of storytelling in societies, while reflecting on historical narratives. Our modern world remains deeply connected to the legacies of Classical Greece and Rome, where foundational ideas were shaped—and contested—by societies that both resemble and differ from our own. The major begins with introductory units that build essential skills, advancing to intermediate and specialized senior units that delve into specific themes or historical periods. This structure helps you grasp the Classical world's historical and cultural significance while assessing its enduring impact today.
