Theatre and Performance Studies examines diverse aesthetic, social, and everyday performances - from traditional theater, dance, and live art to the performative aspects of politics, sports, film, and popular culture. Students will investigate various performance creation methods, develop short original works, and collaborate with resident professional artists.
Through hands-on workshops, you'll gain practical skills while attending numerous performances. You'll learn to document shows, analyze spatial and architectural usage, observe body movements, and transform these observations into comprehensive critiques. Performance serves as an analytical framework for interpreting non-theatrical events, drawing on interdisciplinary theories from theater studies, movement studies, anthropology, history, philosophy, and sociology.
This program establishes a solid theoretical foundation for future careers as performers, directors, educators, arts administrators, or professionals in related cultural fields.
