This dynamic and forward-thinking program is led by faculty from the School of Languages and Cultures alongside the School of Literature, Art and Media. Your instructors will bring diverse expertise spanning literature, film studies, theater studies, cultural studies, translation studies, and social sciences, with specialized knowledge in both traditional and contemporary cultures from Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
Rooted in comparative literary frameworks, this major offers both personal enrichment and professional preparation for careers in publishing, advertising, media, government agencies, NGOs, and academic pursuits.
Through comparative coursework exploring global cities, intersections between text and visual arts, or genres like science fiction, you'll examine how societal, historical, cultural, and political themes manifest across literary traditions throughout different eras.
While no foreign language proficiency is required for core studies (as instruction and discussions use English translations), reading competency in at least one non-English language becomes necessary for Honors and Postgraduate coursework.
