A Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is a globally recognized postgraduate research degree designed to cultivate independent research capabilities.

Working with a supervisory panel, you'll conduct an in-depth research project, compose an 80,000-word dissertation, and defend it through an oral examination.

This program typically requires 3-4 years of full-time study, during which you'll acquire specialized research expertise in your selected discipline.

The dissertation represents a significant scholarly work that offers novel insights to your research area, with potential for alternative presentation formats.

Applicants should possess robust academic qualifications and may be required to provide a research proposal along with supporting documentation. Annually, approximately 1,000 doctoral researchers commence their studies at UQ, exploring diverse academic subjects.
