A Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is a globally recognized postgraduate research degree designed to cultivate independent researchers. Working with a supervisory team, you'll conduct an in-depth research project, compose an 80,000-word dissertation, and defend it in an oral examination. Typically completed in 3-4 years of full-time study, this program helps you acquire specialized research expertise in your selected discipline. The doctoral thesis represents a significant scholarly work that offers novel insights to your research area, with potential for alternative presentation formats. Applicants should possess robust academic credentials and may be required to provide a research proposal along with supporting documentation. Each year, approximately 1,000 doctoral students enroll at UQ to investigate diverse academic subjects.
Many departments will have additional entry requirements and may request documents to support your application, such as a research proposal. You should discuss these additional requirements with your potential thesis supervisor.
