Journalism offers a dynamic career path filled with opportunities to interact with diverse individuals and explore new places. At its core, journalism revolves around information - uncovering, gathering, organizing, examining, and sharing it. Success in this field demands strong language abilities, media literacy, awareness of current events, and extensive general knowledge. The BA program enhances students' capabilities in written expression, analytical reasoning, critical evaluation, and social awareness. Students can select from numerous majors to either enhance their journalism focus (like Economics, International Relations, Public Policy, or Popular Music) or explore other disciplines (such as languages, Criminology, or Psychology), thereby widening their potential career paths in journalism.
The political science extended major provides students with comprehensive insights into contrasting societal perspectives and global intricacies; concepts of power, governance, and control; dynamics of conflict and collaboration in democracies; and political identity formation. This program equips students with thorough knowledge of political theories, systems, cultural influences, civic participation, and democratic processes. Those completing this major will develop skills in democratic problem-solving, independent analysis, effective communication (both written and verbal), collaborative decision-making, self-awareness of political values, critical evaluation of information, recognition of underlying political motivations, and practical application of knowledge to policy and civic engagement. Graduates emerge as flexible thinkers capable of examining issues from various perspectives, demonstrating critical analysis, and stepping into leadership roles with confidence as engaged citizens.
