Launch your research journey and create pathways to advanced studies by completing an honors year in science, focusing on plant science or animal and veterinary bioscience.
The Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree allows you to conduct an independent research project in your chosen field under the guidance of a faculty member.
UQ ranks as Australia's top university for agriculture, offering projects in plant or animal sciences at the Gatton campus. The facility features livestock, crop fields, plant nurseries, post-harvest labs, research labs and greenhouses, wildlife enclosures, specialized veterinary and equine hospitals, and among the finest animal teaching resources in the Southern Hemisphere.
Throughout your honors year, you'll receive training in research methods before dedicating most of your time to your project. You'll develop skills to work independently in research roles within industry or government, or pursue further research degrees.
Bachelor of Science (or equivalent), with:
an overall GPA of 4, and
a GPA of at least 4.5 for 8 units of courses at level 3 or higher relevant to the honours project, and
have secured an honours project and supervisor, and
satisfied any additional requirements set by the head of school.
English Proficiency
IELTS overall 6.5; reading 6; writing 6; speaking 6; listening 6. For other English Language Proficiency Tests and Scores approved for UQ TOEFL IBT - Overall 87, listening 19, reading 19, writing 21 and speaking 19. TOEFL PB - Overall 570, listening 54, reading 54, writing 59/5. Pearsons - Overall Score of 64 and 60 in all sub bands. BEP - A minimum overall grade of 4 plus a minimum grade of C in all macro skills. CES - Overall 176 and 169 in all sub bands. OET is not accepted.
