Journalism is a dynamic profession that offers opportunities to interact with diverse individuals and explore new places. At its core, journalism revolves around information - uncovering, gathering, interpreting, and sharing news. Professionals in this field need strong language abilities, media literacy, awareness of world events, and extensive general knowledge. They convey stories from local communities to international audiences across both traditional and digital media channels. Journalists craft compelling narratives using various methods: writing articles, capturing images, producing audio and video content, designing interactive web features, and more. In this role, you'll employ effective storytelling to highlight pressing local and worldwide concerns. Through UQ's advanced production resources, you'll transform theoretical learning into practical expertise in areas like field recording, camera operation, audio editing, visual content creation, data interpretation, digital publishing, business skills, and multi-channel content delivery. Additionally, you'll receive guidance on contemporary production standards and techniques from the campus Media and Production Support team and experienced professionals from top media organizations.
Queensland Year 12 (or equivalent) General English subject (Units 3 & 4, C).

IELTS overall 6.5; reading 6; writing 6; speaking 6; listening 6. For other English Language Proficiency Tests and Scores approved for UQ TOEFL IBT - Overall 87, listening 19, reading 19, writing 21 and speaking 19. TOEFL PB - Overall 570, listening 54, reading 54, writing 59/5. Pearsons - Overall Score of 64 and 60 in all sub bands. BEP - A minimum overall grade of 4 plus a minimum grade of C in all macro skills. CES - Overall 176 and 169 in all sub bands. OET is not accepted.
