The University of Queensland's engineering program provides Queensland's most extensive selection of engineering disciplines, featuring numerous specialized tracks, majors, and minors. This adaptable program prepares graduates for careers in both traditional and cutting-edge engineering fields. Learners enhance their knowledge by applying scientific and engineering fundamentals to real-world industry challenges. Beyond technical skills, the curriculum focuses on developing critical professional competencies like effective communication, collaborative teamwork, project leadership, analytical thinking, and continuous learning. Recognized through comprehensive accreditation, UQ's engineering qualification opens doors to employment opportunities both in Australia and internationally. We've completely redesigned our Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) program, creating an innovative curriculum that will position graduates as engineering leaders in 2024, 2034, and the decades ahead. The redesigned program features a flexible foundational year with practical exposure to all engineering disciplines, expanded elective choices for enhanced career prospects, and continuous industry engagement woven throughout your studies. Students build specialized technical expertise through a primary focus area that will define their professional path, selecting from chemical, civil, electrical, mechanical, mechatronic, or software engineering. Additionally, students can enhance their primary specialization with focused study in emerging engineering fields through optional majors or minors. Our extensive selection of majors enables students to customize their education to align with professional ambitions and explore subjects in greater depth.
As one of engineering's most diverse fields, mechanical engineering requires comprehensive knowledge of core engineering principles and mathematics to create and sustain various mechanical systems and machinery. Mechanical engineering professionals design and supervise production processes across all industrial sectors, including large-scale operations like power generation facilities. When system failures occur, they investigate root causes and implement preventive solutions. These engineers pioneer techniques for efficient fuel utilization, thermal-to-mechanical energy conversion, and practical power applications. Customize your mechanical engineering focus by selecting complementary majors or minors that align with your professional aspirations. Available mechanical engineering specializations include: Majors Aerospace engineering Biomedical engineering Fire safety engineering Materials engineering Mining engineering Minors Computing Data science Design.
Queensland Year 12 (or equivalent) General English subject (Units 3 & 4, C); Mathematical Methods (Units 3 & 4, C); and one of Chemistry or Physics (Units 3 & 4, C).
Studying Specialist Mathematics (Units 3 & 4, C) and both Chemistry and Physics is recommended as students will have increased flexibility in their studies.
