The Bachelor of Economics (Honours) is designed for those aspiring to become influential leaders in their field, push the frontiers of knowledge, and cultivate specialized expertise. Following your Bachelor of Economics degree, the honours year offers advanced coursework to build the quantitative research skills you'll need. You'll collaborate with renowned researchers and academics who will mentor you throughout your studies, culminating in a thesis—a cornerstone of the honours program that can unlock new career possibilities.
To enrol for honours, an applicant must have¬ø
completed the program requirements of the BEcon at UQ; and
completed all courses listed on the BEcon course list as prerequisites for entry into honours, with a grade of 5 or above (see additional application information below); and
gained a GPA of 5.5 in all ECON coded courses.
Approval is required from the Executive Dean where the program requirements for the BEcon were completed more than two years prior to commencement of the BEcon(Hons). If enrolment in the BEcon(Hons) is approved, the Executive Dean may set conditions.
Where an applicant has completed an award from another institution, the applicant must satisfy the Executive Dean that they are qualified to undertake the program, demonstrating that an equivalent body of knowledge has been gained to an equivalent standard as required for the BEcon from UQ. Entry to the program for these applicants may be subject to completion of additional work.
Note - applicants may be required to meet higher GPA standards set by the Executive Dean to be eligible for admission into specific fields of study.
English language requirements
IELTS overall 6.5; reading 6; writing 6; speaking 6; listening 6. For other English Language Proficiency Tests and Scores approved for UQ
TOEFL iBT (including Paper Edition) - Overall 87, listening 19, reading 19, writing 21 and speaking 19.
PTE Academic - Overall Score of 64 and 60 in all sub bands.
BE - A minimum overall grade of 4 plus a minimum grade of C in all macro skills.
CES - Overall 176 and 169 in all sub bands.
OET is not accepted.
