Exceptional performers in the Bachelor of Biomedical Science at this institution or any Faculty Board-approved equivalent degree qualify for the one-year full-time Honours program. This advanced study opportunity enables students to enhance their biomedical expertise through a specialized research project guided by qualified faculty. Graduates of the program will attain: Comprehensive knowledge and academic preparation suitable for professional practice, with particular emphasis on advanced biomedical competencies. Skills to independently and cooperatively gather, process, evaluate, and structure scientific data. Proficiency in problem-solving through scientific methodology - including hypothesis formulation, statistical application, and logical analysis using appropriate techniques. Capability to effectively present research outcomes through multiple formats (written, visual, oral) and construct compelling scientific arguments at an advanced level. Adaptability to apply acquired knowledge both independently and in team settings across diverse scientific fields, embracing evolving technologies and methodologies. Qualification Requirements
Eligibility for admission to this program is based on applicants having completed a Bachelor degree in a cognate area with a minimum GPA of 5.0.
across all studies undertaken within the program, or
across a major in the proposed area of study, or
across 80 units of 3000 level courses (which must include at least 40 units of 3000 level courses in the major where a major exists), or
where the applicant has completed less than 80 units at 3000 level, a GPA of 5.0 calculated from at least 60 units of 3000 level courses (which includes at least 40 units of 3000 level courses in the major where a major exists).
In exceptional circumstances, an application which does not meet the above requirements may be considered.
Admission to our undergraduate degree programs usually requires successful completion of a senior secondary school qualification similar to the Higher School Certificate (HSC), the highest educational award in New South Wales schools. The University of Newcastle accepts the IB Diploma and Bilingual Diploma as equivalent to an Australian Year 12 qualification. Applicants for this program must satisfy a minimum English Language Proficiency Standard equivalent to an IELTS overall minimum of 6.0 with no subtest result below 6.0, TOEFL IBT 60 R: 13 L:12 S:18 Writing 21
