The MSc program offers foundational research training. Each student receives a unique research project and conducts their investigation under the direct guidance of a faculty member from one of the three departments in the School of Mathematics and Statistics. Upon finishing the research, findings are compiled into a thesis evaluated by global specialists in the discipline. Current research focus areas within the School of Mathematics and Statistics, along with recent thesis examples, can be found on the Mathematics department's website. Students may pursue the MSc full-time, part-time, or (in certain circumstances) through external study. Full-time students typically complete the degree in two years, though those with first-class honors or prior research experience may request to shorten this duration by up to one year.
An honours degree is normally required for admission as an MSc candidate, but applicants with a good pass degree may be admitted to a qualifying program, which usually consists of part or all of the honours year of the relevant department.
