The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) program offers students a focused pathway to build research skills within a condensed period. This degree can be completed in 1.5 years through full-time study or extended to 3 years for part-time students. The candidature period ranges from a minimum of 1 year to a maximum of 2 years.
The MPhil combines examinable coursework with a thesis, totaling 72 Units of Credit. Students complete 18-24 Units of Credit through advanced coursework, typically choosing three to four relevant courses from the discipline's Coursework Masters options, subject to approval by the Head of School. Interdisciplinary studies may be permitted with proper authorization. The research component involves producing an original thesis, which may involve investigation, design, or engineering development. This thesis, capped at 40,000 words, represents 48-54 units of credit and focuses on an approved research topic.
