Environmental conservation and the pursuit of sustainable development that balances current and future generational needs have emerged as critical priorities globally. Over recent years, legal systems at both national and international levels have crafted numerous specialized and innovative interdisciplinary solutions to address these complex issues.
This LL.M. specialization offers comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge about environmental legal frameworks, sustainable management strategies, and the intricate policy dilemmas arising from 21st-century ecological challenges. The field of environmental law spans numerous diverse areas: energy production, climate change mitigation, biodiversity protection, water and marine resources, agricultural practices, financial systems, global development, as well as (particularly relevant in Australia, as one of the planet's most urbanized nations) urban planning, shared resources, digital platform economies, transportation networks, housing policies, and corporate sustainability.
Students will develop the analytical skills and conceptual frameworks necessary to tackle the multifaceted challenges of environmental sustainability, preparing for professional roles in environmental legal practice and policy development. The program leverages the expertise of UNSW Law & Justice faculty and visiting scholars who are internationally renowned in this field.
