The Graduate Diploma in Physical Oceanography is designed for Science, Engineering, and related graduates who want specialized education in ocean physics and processes. This program allows students to customize their expertise to improve career prospects, providing skills highly sought after in Australia's expanding Blue Economy sector. Serving as a stepping stone, the diploma prepares learners for further academic pursuits at Master's or PhD levels while forming the essential component of UNSW's structured Physical Oceanography program series.
The minimum entry requirement is a Bachelor (Pass) degree with a minimum WAM of 70% or equivalent in a cognate discipline (oceanography, meteorology, physics, science, mathematics, statistics, engineering) from a recognised tertiary institution. Students must have a minimum of 12 UOC in Level 2 mathematics (equivalent to UNSW's MATH2018/9 and MATH2089, for example). Exceptions can be made in cases where students have received equivalent industry training or experience.
English Language Requirements:
IELTS: 6.5 overall (min. 6.0 in each subtest); TOEFL IBT (Internet Based): 90 overall (min. 23 in writing, 22 in reading, listening and speaking); Pearson (PTE - Academic): 64 overall (min. 54 in each subtest); C1 Advanced Cambridge: 176 overall (min. 169 in each subtest); C2 Proficiency Cambridge: 180 overall (min. 180 in each subtest); UNSW Global University English Entry Course (UEEC): Successful completion with a minimum overall grade of C+ and a minimum grade of C in the writing component.
