A Practice-based PhD opportunity spans all disciplines within the Faculty of Built Environment, including Architecture, City Planning, Computational Design, Construction Management and Property, Industrial Design, Interior Architecture, and Landscape Architecture. Similar to a conventional PhD, the core objective of the Practice-based PhD is to advance knowledge in the field through methodical research. Candidates are anticipated to produce both an innovative conceptual body of work (the Project) and a written component (the Dissertation), collectively offering an original contribution to their discipline. The Project may manifest in diverse formats, such as architectural designs, urban planning concepts, construction techniques, industrial or interior design solutions, or landscape architecture proposals, potentially bridging multiple fields. The medium of expression could range from physical objects, sketches, and prototypes to digital creations, films, virtual reality experiences, or hybrid forms. A key requirement is that the Project must be comprehensively documented in digital format for examination purposes.
