The School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences (BEES) provides several Honours programs, including Palaeoscience. The Palaeoscience Honours program exposes undergraduate students to research initiatives and projects pertinent to diverse fields within the physical environmental sciences, such as archaeology, evolutionary anthropology, palaeoclimate studies, palaeoecology, fossil research, and investigations into historical human-environment relationships and natural hazards. Participants engage in a guided research project that prioritizes scientific methodologies, application of specialized techniques, analytical reasoning, and effective scientific communication through written reports and verbal presentations. This program's educational approach emphasizes students embracing their role as researchers to cultivate these competencies and advanced subject-matter expertise with a measure of autonomy. Spanning three academic sessions, the curriculum features a Research Proposal (potentially incorporating an in-depth literature analysis and risk assessment elements) alongside a major self-directed Research Project conducted with guidance from BEES faculty members. These core components are supplemented by structured seminars and workshops that address key professional skills (scientific writing, risk evaluation, ethical considerations, and career preparation) as well as presentations from the School and affiliated Institutes/Centers.
