Physiology explores the mechanisms behind human bodily functions - examining organ operations (including the brain), growth and development patterns, maintenance of vital processes, and changes during illness and aging. In greater detail, it investigates molecular interactions within cells that enable specific functions (molecular and cellular physiology) and how organs, composed of various cell types, coordinate through neural and hormonal signals to support an organism's survival (systems and integrative physiology). This field underpins all key areas of human biology and related disciplines like pharmacology, anatomy, and pathology.
