Zoology explores the lives of all animal species — from minuscule parasites to massive blue whales, and from small songbirds to prehistoric dinosaurs — across Earth's diverse ecosystems. UNE's Bachelor of Zoology combines laboratory work and field studies to train you in specialized biological research techniques. You'll deepen your knowledge of zoological principles and apply them to real-world scenarios, including animal behavior, genetics, conservation, herpetology, parasitology, physiology, wildlife ecology, freshwater ecosystems, and physical anthropology.
Launch a fulfilling career with Australia's exclusive zoology-focused program.
As the sole zoology-specific degree in Australia, UNE's Bachelor of Zoology is ideal for animal enthusiasts passionate about biology, ecology, and natural history. The Zoology in Practice core curriculum fosters academic growth by connecting theory with real-world applications. You'll graduate with robust scientific training and specialized zoological expertise, supported by mentorship and research opportunities.
Our career-focused majors and interdisciplinary minors enhance your professional prospects. Specialize in applied zoology, natural history, animal ecology, or palaeobiology, while complementing your studies with minors like science communication, water science, museum studies, botany, spatial science, or zoological methods. Our research excellence in zoology, ecology, evolutionary biology, and genetics is globally recognized.
UNE's zoology faculty consists of internationally renowned experts with extensive animal research experience. Their knowledge directly informs our curriculum. The Armidale campus offers unparalleled access to diverse ecosystems, including rainforests, coastal woodlands, semi-arid plains, and alpine environments. These nearby habitats provide rich fieldwork opportunities, giving you hands-on zoological training in varied natural settings.
