The Master of Psychology (Clinical Psychology)/Doctor of Philosophy program is widely recognized as one of the nation's top clinical psychology programs. Designed to cultivate professionals with deep expertise in psychopathology, it emphasizes culturally sensitive assessment and treatment approaches for psychological disorders across all age groups. Training in therapeutic techniques primarily follows a cognitive-behavioural approach, delivered through classroom instruction, individual sessions, and group clinical settings.
This comprehensive program includes mandatory coursework, hands-on clinical placements, and a research thesis focused on clinical psychology topics. The faculty consists of practicing clinicians and active researchers across diverse clinical specialties, offering students exposure to varied clinical environments and research opportunities.
During their initial year, students evaluate and treat adult clients at the University of Melbourne Psychology Clinic. The second year features two specialized field placements: one concentrating on child/adolescent assessment and treatment, and another focused on adult clinical practice.
In order to be considered for entry into the Master of Psychology component, applicants must have completed:
an Australian Psychological Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited four-year undergraduate sequence in Psychology, namely a three-year major in Psychology as part of an undergraduate degree plus a fourth-year Honours specialisation in Psychology, with a weighted average mark of at least H2A (75%), or equivalent
English language requirements:

TOEFL Internet-based test: 94 + ; Writing 27; Speaking 23; Reading 24; Listening 24;
Pearson Test of English Academic: 65 + written communicative skill of 65 and no other communicative skill below 58
