The Master of Music (Research) is an advanced research program that enables students to explore their research capabilities, advance current knowledge in music practice and theory, and potentially achieve expertise in their specialized area. Earning this degree demonstrates the completion of significant original research conducted under academic guidance within an established research setting over a defined timeframe. For most specializations excluding Music Psychology, Music Therapy, and Musicology/Ethnomusicology, students may present either a portfolio of original compositions or a combined performance portfolio with an accompanying written project.

a Bachelor of Music (Honours) degree, or equivalent, with at least an H2A (75%) weighted average;
IELTS total score of at least 6.5 in the Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS), with no bands less than 6.0.
TOEFL (internet-based): total score at of least 79 and scores of 21 for writing, 18 for speaking, 13 for reading and 13 for listening.
TOEFL (paper-based): total score of at least 577 with a score of 4.5 in the Test of Written English.
