The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) is an intensive program demanding higher academic achievement than a standard degree. It provides diverse Arts disciplines spanning humanities, social sciences, and languages while strengthening students' research capabilities and critical thinking. The program fosters creative problem-solving skills and allows specialization in either one (pure honours) or two (combined honours) study areas.
This additional year following a three-year BA prepares students for postgraduate research programs (PhD – Arts or Research Masters). Many undergraduate degrees include an honours pathway, which develops superior research, analysis, and communication abilities through independent projects. Completing honours may shorten some Melbourne University Masters programs by up to twelve months.
A BA degree provides adaptable study options in humanities, social sciences, and languages at Australia's top-ranked institution. Students gain cross-disciplinary knowledge, community engagement skills, and cultural competence, equipping them for today's dynamic global workforce.
English and Theatre Studies combines both disciplines, allowing specialization in either field. The program explores creative writing and theatrical performance, examining their structures, historical contexts, and societal connections. Course offerings span from Medieval to contemporary literature and performance, covering British, Australian, American, and postcolonial works alongside critical theories. The University of Melbourne's English and Theatre Studies program enjoys national and international acclaim for its progressive teaching methods and scholarly research.
