The Master of Biotechnology program delves into the examination of living organisms to solve problems in environmental, health, and food science sectors. Participants will investigate genetic and protein technologies, bioinformatics, along with diverse microbiology and food science fields through both theoretical instruction and extensive laboratory practice.
This curriculum offers a choice between an industry internship or a research project culminating in a minor thesis during one semester.
Every student gains practical experience by working with authentic datasets during their research project.
The program is conducted full-time through in-person classes supplemented by digital learning resources (including online components). Instructional methods encompass lectures, tutorials, virtual content, and collaborative group activities. A significant portion of studies involves practical projects and fieldwork, offering real-life applications while fostering teamwork and organizational abilities. Exceptional students may participate in work-integrated learning (WIL) via industry research projects or optional professional placements.
Past participants have completed projects and internships at prestigious institutions including The Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity, Murdoch Children's Research Institute, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Olivia Newton-John Cancer Centre, CSIRO, Seqirus, Burnet Institute, and AgriBio, among others.
