The Bachelor of Youth Work and Youth Studies delves into pressing social challenges impacting vulnerable young individuals, including housing insecurity, extremist influences, economic hardship, and psychological wellbeing. It promotes thoughtful analysis and exploration of youth experiences concerning physical environments, digital spaces, cultural contexts, faith traditions, family dynamics, and legal frameworks. This program seeks to analyze and cultivate settings where all young people can flourish while feeling empowered, supported, and secure.
The curriculum incorporates practical experiences through field observations, professional internships, digital learning platforms, and community initiatives. Students participate in dynamic learning through field trips, collaborative sessions, and hands-on workshops.
Through both solo and team presentations, learners cultivate abilities in public speaking, guiding conversations, and participating in substantive discussions. The program involves reviewing real-world scenarios, research papers, scholarly publications, and other materials to thoroughly examine the contributions of field specialists. Visiting experts will share current, practical knowledge from professional practice. A fundamental element involves youth work practicums, offering essential hands-on training.
During the second year, students complete a 30-day industry-linked project, followed by a 30-day supervised placement in youth-focused organizations during the third year. These placements may occur in metropolitan, regional, or international settings. Instruction combines lectures, seminar discussions, small-group tutorials, and practitioner-led presentations.
