Significant government and private sector funding is being directed toward space science technology, underscoring an increasing skills shortage both in Australia and globally. RMIT's Bachelor of Space Science equips students with essential expertise in space science and technology, bridging the gap between upstream (construction/launch) and downstream (utilization of space-based products and services) sectors. This program stands alone in Australia's educational landscape. We pioneer advancements in space science and engineering research, offering a distinctive blend of physics, engineering, geospatial studies, mathematics, statistics, and specialized space disciplines.
This program fosters collaborations with leading space organizations worldwide, including Space Applications Services, Electro Optic Systems, Geoscience Australia, and international space agencies like NASA (USA), JAXA (Japan), ESA (Europe), and DLR (Germany).
Students gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge facilities such as the RMIT Optical Telescope, SPACE Research Centre, Virtual Experiences Laboratory, and Space Industry Hub. Industry placements form a core component, with opportunities for 12-week internships at organizations like Saber Astronautics, the Bureau of Meteorology, and CSIRO.
The School of Science maintains strong industry relationships through its Industry Advisory Committee and various research initiatives. Committee insights have been instrumental in shaping this degree's curriculum, offering guidance on emerging industry needs, graduate competencies, advanced technology integration, and the implementation of work-integrated learning and international collaboration programs.
